Presenter: Cynthia Lee, PhD
Topic: Psychoanalysis and Poetry
Poetry has much in common with psychoanalysis, given that both of them rest on emanations from the unconscious. Poetry can function as an aspect of the analytic third co-created by the treatment dyad. It can be used as part of the analyst’s internal supervisor, and can offer glimpses into the soul of the patient.
Cynthia Lee has a private practice in psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and clinical supervision. She is a graduate of the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Institute and is certified as a psychoanalyst by the American Psychoanalytic Association. She is past president of ASPP. She has presented at ASPP, the San Antonio society for Psychoanalytic Psychology, the American Psychoanalytic Association, and the International Psychoanalytic Association. She has been an associate editor of the Journal of Psychoanalysis and has served as a reviewer for that journal and the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association. She serves on the faculty of the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Institute and is a member of its board of directors.
